Term 2 Week 2 - Reading Groups Online - Bugbix for Breakfast

Last week the reading groups, JK Rowling and Margaret Mahy read an article called, 'Bugbix for Breakfast'. This is the link to our learning on the work on our class site.

Reading Purpose - One third of the world's population is in lock down. What do you think people are eating around the world at this time?

During one of our online discussions, the student's were asked two questions: Why do people eat insects? and Why don't people eat insects?

This is what they thought ...

Kaydee - I think people eat bugs for breakfast because they have vitamins and are very healthy and nutritious. I think other people don’t eat bugs because they are scared of them and they think they're not healthy and also some bugs can be bad and
poisonous.

Tuva-Lisa - I think people eat bugs because bugs can be good for you and because they have vitamins. I think people are scared of eating bugs because some are poisonous and bad for you and some people are scared of them.

Chase - It is cheap and easy to farm bugs.eating food in their own environment
People in NZ don’t know what bugs to eat and might get sick.they are creepy-crawly and dirty.

Millan - People eat it for their health and protein and fat. Because they live in a disgusting places and spread diseases

Grace - Because they have lots of vitamins in them.Because they can carry lots of disease.

Koda - I think they eat them because they have lots of protein. People don't like to eat them because they could be poisonous.

Lucy - I think people eat bugs because bugs have vitamins and protein. That might be the only supply of food for them to eat. I think people don’t want to eat insects because some of the people think of bugs as creepy crawly things with lots of legs. People might not want to eat them because people think they come off the ground with all of the germs.

This was a very interesting topic which gave us all lots to think about. The students made posters and slides to share their learning. Check out Alani and Edmon's great google slides.
