ANZAC Day 2020

The Ode of Rememberance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them

The Te Manga students have been using our class site to learn all about ANZAC Day. Please click on this link to view our class site.

In Te Manga students have made poppies at home, created ANZAC artwork, done ANZAC colouring and made ANZAC biscuits.

Our class hangout this morning was a chance for people to share something that they know about ANZAC Day. Larell and Kaydee told us about their family members who served in WW2. Tuva-Lisa showed us her great granddad's medals. He had so many. Cooper did some beautiful ANZAC art which had a pictures of his two great grandfathers who fought in the war. Lots of the students brought their beautiful poppies! Oscar has been doing a project about his Great Granpa Tom who fought in WW2. Oscar  and Yvette shared told us about him and they have part of his parachute. If he was still alive it would be his 100th birthday on Sunday so they are going to have a celebration for him.

It was great to listen to these stories and to see all the wonderful poppies that the students had made during the week.

This year we will have to commemorate ANZAC Day a little differently due to the lock down, as we will be unable to go gather in a large group for an ANZAC service.

However there are lots of ways that we have found that we can still commemorate ANZAC Day. How will you and your whanau commemorate ANZAC Day this year?
