Online Learning - Week 2

Today it was lovely to see so many smiling faces during our morning meet. We went through our learning expectations for the week. and where to find everything. Although we're all at home, it was great to hear that the class felt confident navigating their learning.

We had a few people who wanted to share which is fantastic. Jackson shared a wonderful lego creation that he had been working on. It is a very cool building site which also has a little portaloo. The class thought this was very funny!

Kaiora told us that he has been doing some more gardening. He has planted carrots which he is really looking forward to eating!

Alaris found a box full of treasures from when she was younger. She showed us class photos from her old school in Auckland when she was only 5 and she had to wear a uniform and black shoes.

Kylan has been working on a hut in the cowshed and has been making chocolate fudge. He loved it so much his face was covered with it!

Elena and her family were working hard over the weekend to move a pile of dirt that was almost the size of Elena's room. Luckily there are 5 shovels so no one missed out on helping!

Donna has been super busy making movies with her mum and helping to build a new fence. Donna and her mum have brainstormed lots of ideas for making a movie and toegther they made an awesome video about our school values! Enjoy :-)

First Week of Online Learning!

Our first week of online learning is done and dusted.

Thank you to all our Te Manga students who have been doing their best to be connected online and to self manage their learning at home. I thought everybody deserved the VALUES award this week!

Today it was really lovely to see so many of our class at our google meets and to also connect with Mrs Davan and Te Tinana as Te Whare Tui. Mrs Davan organised a Nearpod to play online and then we did another scavenger hunt which was a lot of fun! Here are some of our photo's from today.

We also had one more meet at 11am to do some 'Free Writing Friday'. It was great to have a few keen writers join in. Thank you to Jackson, Kieran and Kaiora for sharing to the group.

Scavenger Hunt

Today we had a super fun treasure hunt during our google meet. The students were so excited to take part and the sounds of delight coming from my laptop told me they were really enjoying themselves. It was also great to hear how much learning the students are managing to do while they are at home. Keep up the wonderful effort Te Manga kids and whanau!

Level 4 Lockdown - What's happening in our bubbles?

NZ has been in a Level 4 lockdown for a whole week. The students in Te Manga have been busy enjoying their time at home, helping their families and managing their learning. It was great for the class to catch up during our google meets at 9am and 11am.

The students have lots of learning to do on our class site  and there are also a variety of fun choices to check out including a BUBBLE kahoot to play which is all  about our class. Click on this link to play a KAHOOT.

Kapa Haka with Papa Chris and Whaea Sandra

This week we had the opportunity to take part in Kapa Haka with Whaea Sandra and Papa Chris and the lovely tauira (students) from Te Rangi Aniwaniwa. The students learnt a new game to practice their pukana and then learnt a new waiata. Our class enjoyed learning with our kaiako and are really looking forward the next session!

St Johns with Jo

Today we had a visit from a lovely teacher called Jo from St Johns. The ASB St John in Schools programme aims to develop confident young Kiwi kids who care for the health and wellbeing of their communities. The sessions deliver positive learning experiences to empower children to prevent injuries and respond to emergencies.

Jo spoke to the class about the number of children who are hospitalised each week in NZ due to being cut, burns, poisons, wheel related accidents, falling off things at home, in the community and at school. Jo talked to the students about the ways that they can keep themselves safe and out of hospital.

The students then had the chance take turns to clean a 'pretend' wound with water and gauze then bandage up an injury. They were so interested and engaged throughout the session and we can't wait to learn more from Jo next time she visits.

Olympics Day

Today we had a fantastic OIympic Day. Lots of our students and teachers dressed up for the occasion.

Our day started with a very special visitor, Trevor Manning who is an Olympic Gold Medalist. He was the hockey goalkeeper from 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and a three time Olympian. Trevor spoke to us about his experiences and what it means to be an Olympian.

Then we had a whole school Olympic Sports activities hour. The students got to have a go at; soccer, basketball, standing long jump, sprints, gumboot throw, shotput and the tug of war. Everyone had a fantastic time and an ice block treat to finish off the day. Thanks to Sir for organising!
