Out of Africa Disco

The Out of Africa Disco on Tuesday 11th June was a great chance for everyone to have a bit of fun by getting dressed up and showing off their best dance moves. The students had lots of fun and the parents enjoyed the delicious food and entertaining sights of all the characters 'Out of Africa'.

This night was a fundraiser for our 3 junior classes and 2 middle school classes to attend The Lion King movie at Te Ahu in Term 3. The night raised $2012 which was an incredible effort by all involved.

A huge thank you to all of our whanau who provided food and help on the night, to the Walker family for their lights and speakers, to Kape Murray for being an awesome DJ as always and to all our wonderful Paparore Staff who helped out to make this wonderful night possible!

Te Manga Term 3 Assembly - Velvet and Elvis by Stephanie Bowman

This term our class have been learning about Tuna Kuwharuwharu or longfin eels. They are endemic to New Zealand and are special and unique to us. They live most of their life in fresh water but they need  to swim to the deep sea near Tonga to spawn and then their offspring make the long migration back to NZ. The longfin eel faces many challenges during their migration. Most of these challenges are caused by humans. The longfin eel is a species on the decline. It is not endangered yet but it will be if more is not done to conserve this species.

Our class used the story of Velvet and Elvis - A Mother and Son Story to highlight the challenges that longfin eels face during their migration to reproduce and to teach our school community about the importance of this special taonga.

As always the students took part with enthusiasm and did a great job of re-telling the story.
