Term 3 Week 1 - It's going to be a busy term!

It was great to get back to school this week to catch up with everyone and hear all about the holiday fun!

This week we welcomed Whaea Saroya into our class. Saroya is in her third year of her teaching degree through the University of Waikato and will be in class all term.

The class have enjoyed learning about the Olympics this week and following our kiwi athletes as they go for gold. We have enjoyed watching different events live on our smart board. The students are already thinking of how they could compete at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane!

Today we joined with Te Tinana for our first 'Funday Friday'. We will be working with Te Tinana every Friday this term. Initially we will be learning about film making as Paparore School has the opportunity to enter two films into the Te Hiku film festival. The theme for the movies this year are 'VALUES'. We are going to have a Paparore Film Festival on 2nd September and will select two films to go through to the Te Hiku Film Festival on 16th September.
Check out the 2020 Te Hiku Film Festival highlights!
There is so much to look forward to this term!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Our class have been reading 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' this term and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Every day after lunch the students have looked forward to finding out what will happen next with much enthusiam! There was so much to love about this book, we decided to have a Harry Potter Dress Up Day.

Our classroom became Hogwarts and the students became witches and wizards for the day. The class made Hogwarts Student ID cards, wordfinds and wands plus we finished our book and watched the movie (with pop corn and treats). It was a magical day and a wonderful end to the term.

We had lots of lovely visitors to our classroom today!

Mahuika - Goddess of Fire Art

Earlier this term we went to Niwa to watch the Auckland Theatre company perform a show about Mahuika, the goddess of fire. We created art about Mahuika and her flaming fingernails using crayon, dye and sharpies. We enjoyed our art and how they have brightened up our classroom walls.

JK Rowling - Matariki Facts

The JK Rowling reading group have been reading a book about Matariki.

We wanted to share what we learnt about Matariki using a jamboard. We think we will be able to teach our class a lot about Matariki.
