Water Fun Afternoon

Today our whole school enjoyed a water fun afternoon. The students enjoyed two water slides, sprinklers, water guns, bubbles, sliding off the playground and the pool. The children's faces were full of delight as they raced from activity to activity. Thank you to Sir and Mrs Davan for setting up all our fun!

Last Friday, we performed our class assembly, 'The Great Reading Adventure' as part of Te Whare Tui (Te Manga and Te Tinana). It was all about Duffy taking his sister Scruffy on a reading journey. He introduced her to all sorts of books to help her learn to love reading. He showed her 'The Wonkey Donkey', 'The BFG', a variety of non-fiction choices, 'Maui and the Sun' and lots of Fairy Tale stories. At the end of the assembly everyone sang the Duffy Song to encourage our audience to READ, READ, READ!!!! Check out our amazing actors and actresses. We still have a few photos to add!

Our Tsunami Evacuation

Last Friday our whole school was evacuated because there was a tsunami warning. All the students were amazing, within 5 minutes of the warning alarm we were on our way to safety. Everyone was so impressed with the way the students conducted themselves, we all felt so proud of them! The class have been writing about their experiences. They will be posted on blogs however here are a few to read.

On Friday a week ago right when we were doing our free writing Friday, Whaea Deb told us to go get our bags and shoes. No one got their hats except for Carly and Ryan. I felt like my heart was beating so fast. When we had gone across the road we went through a gate and walked up a steep hill. When we got up the hill we had stopped for some morning tea. Then   about a quarter of the school had gotten picked up so we kept on going. And we got all the way up the hill and then that's right when my dad comes and picks me and my sister up so I had to run all the way back down again. And my sister. When we got in the van my belt was stuck behind the door so I had to open up the door but not fall out because it was a matter of life and death.

Today we went home early because a big tsunami wave was going to come. We all went on a big hill for safety.

Last Friday there was a Tsunami Evacuation. It happened when we were on our free writing Friday. When Whaea Deb came into the class and she told us about the Tsunami  Evacuation. So all of us packed our bags and we went onto a hill and some people even were crying but I was not. When we got on the hill we started eating lunch and I had a big drink of water and the water was so nice and cold that was just what I needed.

On Friday when had free writing Friday there was an alarm and the teacher said let's go on an adventure. I was worried I got my bag and put my hat on my head and went in line.  For some reason we went up a hill and people kept talking about it. That's how I knew what was going on. There was a tsunami then I felt nervous. I saw mum park her car but I still had to go up. I waited for the first stop to eat. I was so hungry. Some people were crying but then they almost made me sad so I felt sad and worried along with being nervous. I went to the second stop. It was way higher then I felt very safe. Then mum made it after 10 minutes she made it up to us i gave her a big hug but I did have a little hissy fit, just a tiny one!

In the morning at about 9:00 the Tsunami warning went on. I was terrified. The rest of the school got their bags and headed up the hill and I was petrified of what might happen. There was a lot of gorse. It was incredible, I hated the amount of gorse!!!

I could almost see the school. It was so small it was like a play house but it was a  school  and I could see the lake and Waka Bay it was literally incredible I did not believe my eyes. After all the drama we got a sausage sizzle and milk. That was a relief!!!
