Te Manga Assembly - Kawa of Care

Our Class Assembly was all about the Kawa of Care. The Kawa of Care is  an agreement between students, parents and the school. This agreement ensures that each learner understands their important responsibilities when using their device for learning, at school and home. Check out our class site to find out more information about the Kawa of Care - click here!

The students worked hard all week to create their skits, learn their parts and film their scenes. We had a lot of fun with our assembly this week and we hope you enjoy watching it and the videos that we made. Please leave a positive, thoughtful and helpful comment on our blog.

Watch our movie trailer about the 'Kawa of Care'.

Chase, Koda and Mihi found out what happens when you don't follow the 'Kawa of Care' and have food and drink around your device.

Hemi, Chase and Reo work out the best places to sit to follow the 'Kawa of Care'.

Zana found out what happens when you do not zip your bag and Jamie found out what happens when you don't use the strap on your carry case.

This is a video of our assembly, there are a few parts missing, but you'll get to see most of it . We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed doing it!

Our camera had a few issues and cut off part of our assembly. This is the last scene.

Tuesday is Our Sharing Day

Every Tuesday the students have an opportunity to share with the class. It is a lovely way to start the day and the students have been very enthusiastic with what they share.  We have had a variety of news items shared. Today Reo shared some writing he has been doing at home. Jamie shared a gigantic toheroa shell and Hemi told us about the drag races in Meremere. He even had a great 'Bad Kiwi' t-shirt to show us. Last week Koda shared a beautiful book with us and Kaiora told us about Six60. We found out that Grace and Alani have joined Evolve Dance School and Kaydee went to Rainbows End in the last long weekend. Lucy brought a wharenui that she made with her nana at Waitangi, it's so cool we're thinking about making one too.The students have been great listeners and are learning to ask quality questions. I wonder who will share next?

Swimming Fun!

The student's have been fantastic during our swimming sessions each week. They are excellent at managing themselves to remember their gear each day.

The students are confident doing a range of floats on their front and back including; starfish, mushroom and jellyfish floats. They have been working on their freestyle and have just started learning backstroke.

Our writing this week has been all about our swimming sessions with a focus on what happens when they put their caps on and when they first get into the pool. The writing has been very entertaining!

Chromebooks - Camera - Action

Some of the students had never taken a photo using their chromebooks, so this afternoon those students learnt how to take a photo using their chromebook and move it to their drive.

The 'oldies but goodies' from our Te Manga class last year were the wonderful IT helpers to make sure everyone was successful!

Check out some of our smiling faces!

Manaiakalani - LEARN, CREATE, SHARE

We are continuing our learning with Manaiakalani and have 1:1 chromebooks in class. The chromebooks are a learning tool to enable the students to make wider connections, access information quickly, create work and share their work online.
Our Te Manga 2020 Class Learning Site is up and running click on our link to check it out - https://bit.ly/37XHgJh.
Before the students started to use the chromebooks in class they had to learn and agree to following the KAWA of CARE. The KAWA of CARE ensures that students know how to care for and use their device in a responsible way ie. I agree to be in the right place, at the right time, every time I am online. It ensures that they will get the best use of their device during their learning time.

The students signed this document which is kept in class however if you wish to view the document, there is a copy on our class site under the Cyber Smart.
The students have been creating slides or a poster to share their learning about the Kawa of Care.
Check out Alani's slide deck about the Kawa of Care!

Check out Chase's poster about the Kawa of Care!

World Read Aloud Day is a wonderful reminder of the power and importance of just READING ALOUD. We have been reading George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.

It has been an enjoyable 'Read Aloud' that has entertained the students everyday after lunch. Check out our 'World Read Aloud' picture.
